Ledgers Book

Records of marriages and baptisms are normally found at the parish at which the sacrament was celebrated. The Diocesan Archives houses older records, and those from parishes which have been closed or merged. Records from the Savannah area include baptisms and marriages from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Sacred Heart, St. Benedict the Moor, and St. Patrick’s (now closed). We also have the care of the older records from Augusta (Most Holy Trinity, St. Patrick’s, Sacred Heart, and Immaculate Conception) and Brunswick (St. Francis Xavier) as well as the mission areas which were served from Douglas. Recently we were entrusted with records from Holy Family, Columbus, and from Valdosta and Dublin .

Ledgers Book

When requesting records, it is important to give as much information as possible, including names at birth and alternative spellings. This work is time-consuming. We do not charge for our services, but donations are welcome. They help to pay for the preservation of the older ledgers. Send requests to Archives, Diocese of Savannah, 601 East Liberty Street, Savannah, GA 31401, or via e-mail: archives@diosav.org
