The primary purpose of the Chancery staff is to serve the Bishop in matters of church administration. It is responsible for gathering information for the Diocesan Directory, the Official Catholic Directory (the Kenedy Directory), the annual Rome Report, the Quinquennial Report, Parish Profiles and several annual reports.

The Chancellor of the Diocese of Savannah is responsible for the Archives, the official records of the diocese. He also assists the bishop where needed, coordinates the annual Mission Cooperative Appeal, distributes the Pastoral Bulletin - a monthly newsletter for clergy and church leadership and is a canonical advisor to the bishop.
