Divorce Ministry
DIVORCED, SEPARATED AND BEREAVED
A variety of support group meetings/conferences/activities are available to help those who are adjusting to the loss due to separation or divorce. These activities are designed to help individuals come to a better understanding of themselves and of their relationship to God and the community.
- ANNUAL RETREAT FOR DIVORCED-SEPARATED-BEREAVED
The diocese provides an annual weekend retreat for divorced, separated and widowed at various retreat centers around the diocese. The retreat held February 19-20 in Savannah was a great success. More information about the annulment process is available on the Diocesan Tribunal page.
- REBUILDING WHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP ENDS
This is a structured ten-week educational seminar for separated, divorced and widowed persons. The group studies and prays together in confidentiality with the compassionate support of trained peer facilitators. Pre-registration is required.
- DIVORCED-SEPARATED CATHOLICS SUPPORT GROUPS.
Orientation and guidance for those interested in planning and facilitating similar groups is available through the Family Life Office. Groups in Augusta and Savannah provide peer support and social events for those who are divorced or widowed. For information on starting your own group contact the Family Life office.
- In Savannah, the NEW FLIGHT ASSOCIATION for Christian Singles was started in the Savannah Deanery as a support group for divorced, separated and widowed Catholics and friends. They meet biweekly to share a meal at a local restaurant, for a potluck supper, or to plan an outreach project. Contact and information about the program is done through email. For more information or to be added to the list for the dates and places of activities email mike.callahan-1@hotmail.com.
- In Augusta a group is meeting on a monthly basis to share a meal and socialize. They will be offering a retreat for their deanery later in 2010. To join the group contact Sharon Parr at St. Teresa of Avila Church in Grovetown.
