Natural Family Planning
NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING (nfp)
Natural Family Planning (NFP) refers to natural methods used for avoiding or achieving pregnancy which are based on a couple’s awareness of the woman’s naturally occurring times of fertility and infertility. MORE INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND AT USCCB/NFP .
NFP reflects the dignity of the human person within the context of marriage and family life, promotes openness to life, and recognizes the value of the child. By respecting the love-giving natures of marriage, NFP can enrich the bond between husband and wife. When couples are taught by competent teachers, understand the methods, and are motivated to follow them, NFP is up to 99% successful in spacing or limiting births.
Some of the natural methods are:
The Ovulation Method: Billings Ovulation Method
The Sympto-Thermal Method: Sympto Thermal
CREIGHTON MODEL FertilityCare™ System (CrMS): Creighton Model
The “Couple to Couple League” (CCL) Method: www.ccli.org
The family life office has a new informational brochure which can be downloaded here. It contains all the information you need to understand the different methods of Natural Family Planning. You can also locate a Natural Family Planning instructor in your area.
If you would like to be trained as a NFP teacher for your parish or deanery please contact Stella Kitchen for more information about our training schedule.
NFP Classes: The Diocese of Savannah offers instruction in The Ovulation and Sympto-Thermal methods of NFP in English and Spanish. The best way to learn NFP is from a qualified instructor who is certified from an NFP teacher education program. NFP couple classes are scheduled by appointment with the instructor. Cost is $75 for initial instruction and 6 monthly follow-up sessions with a trained instructor. Contact the Family Life Office for a teacher in your area.
