The Office of Hispanic Ministry extends a warm welcome to all people that communicates and pray in the Spanish Language. We also welcome all persons to walk with us in our journey of faith in the diversity of our cultures, languages and traditions. That diversity brings rich rituals and traditions that are openly shared with the entire community of faith. We are all members of the Body of Christ through our Baptism and are a welcoming, loving and warm people.

Been Christian followers of The Risen Lord, we confess our Catholic identity and accept our vocation to be a living witness of Jesus Christ among us, especially here in South Georgia 90 counties that make us the largest diocese east of the Mississippi River. We are committed to the National Pastoral Plan, to the Pastoral de Conjunto and to live in the unity and richness of our diversities.

Our ministry is not only to the Hispanic Catholics; it reaches out to all, regardless of their faith, language or cultural background. We see our office as the collaborating bridge between the cultures that make up our diocese. Our goal is to bring together all our brothers and sisters in Christ into the one Roman Catholic Apostolic Church, regardless of the language, culture, or ethnicity.

As a historical foot note we proudly claim that the territory that is now the Diocese of Savannah has had a long history of Catholism. It was started by the Spaniard Franciscan Missionaries who ran the Missions near present day Savannah in Saint Katherine Island. They converted the Guale Indians of this territory to the Catholic faith. This dates back to the fifteen hundreds. From these days the stories of the five Franciscan Priests that were martyred for defending the sanctity of marriage have been the subject of scrutiny. What is not disputed is that the Catholic Faith has had a presence here in Georgia almost five hundred years now. You can read about the five Franciscan Martyrs case that is in process for Beatification at the following site: (http://www.georgiamartyrs.org/).

Please come and be part of our ever growing community of brothers and sisters in Christ. We extend to you the warm welcome of the Southern Hospitality of South Georgia. We pray that Mary the Mother of God and Jesus blessings be with you always.
