Marriage Jubilee
Ninety-One Couples Celebrate Long-Term Marriages
While Jim Golden was serving as Chatham County Recreation Director for 40 years, Jean Golden was teaching school and caring for their four children. Sometimes his job took him out of town for a few days. If the place he visited was especially interesting, he'd arrange to take the whole family there for a vacation at a later date.
Their shared religious faith, the example set by both their sets of parents, their love for their children, their ability to patch up quarrels before they escalated into all-out warfare-the Goldens cite these as the secrets for their 50 year marriage.
On Sunday, February 8, World Marriage Day, the Goldens joined 90 other couples at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Savannah Bishop J. Kevin Boland was the main celebrant and led the couples in renewing their marriage vows. He also presented certificates and take photos with the two couples celebrating 60 years of marriage, 36 couples celebrating 50 years and 50 couples celebrating 25 years. The couples came from Catholic parishes from throughout South Georgia.
