Office of the Bishop
The Bishop's office is responsible for the spiritual well-being of Catholics in south Georgia as well as the day-to-day administration of the Diocese of Savannah.
Conducts trials and hears cases that relate to the invalidity of marriages.
Vicar General / Moderator of the Curia
The Vicar General assists the Bishop in his administration of the diocese. He makes decisions following the intention and the mind of the bishop. By this office, the Vicar General is an extension of part of the bishop's executive power - handling issues regarding policy and procedure in the diocese.
The primary purpose of the Chancery staff is to serve the Bishop in matters of church administration. It is responsible for gathering information for the Diocesan Directory and annual reports.
Offices included in the Chancery are:
Black Catholic Ministry
Assists the Bishop in facilitating the participation of Black Catholics in south Georgia in the mission of the Church.
Preserves the permanent and enduring records of the diocese, its people, institutions and associations.
Child and Youth Protection
Creates a safe environment for the children and young people of the Diocese of Savannah.
Ecumenism and Interreligious
The Mission of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Savannah to all the people of South Georgia includes a mission to and with the other Christian churches, ecclesial communities, and those who worship in non-Christian religions.
Serves all people who communicate and pray in the Spanish language. Also welcomes all persons to walk with us in our journey of faith in the diversity of our cultures, languages and traditions.
The ministry of the deacon in the Roman Catholic Church is described as one of service in three areas: the Word, the Liturgy and Charity.
Priesthood and Religious Life.
The secretariat offices assist the Bishop in his mission as Pastor of the Diocese. These offices include:
Facilitates communications between the Diocese and both the Catholic and secular communities.
The Southern Cross, the weekly diocesan newspaper, is the chief tool for communications within the diocese.
Construction and Properties
Serves as the Bishops advocate and direct contact over seeing all parish & diocesan properties owned personally by the Bishop while in office, consult to parish priests, building and financial committees on capital building projects and all building and ground maintenance.
The Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Savannah, recognizing inherent geographic challenges, collaborate to achieve among diverse communities a unified educational program which is both authentically Catholic and of the highest academic standard.
The Office of Faith Formation exists to assist the diocese in realizing its mission of total education and formation. It does this by providing leadership in research, development and coordination of religious education programs in the Diocese of Savannah.
Family life / Catholic Charities
Affirms and supports family life: Marriage Ministry, Natural Family Planning, Divorce Ministry, Singles Ministry, Counseling and more.
Provides good stewardship of the temporal goods of the Catholic Diocese of Savannah under the authority of the Bishop.
Administers all employee benefits and job opportunities for the Diocese of Savannah.
Stewardship and Development
Responsible for the Bishop's Annual Appeal, Parish and Diocesan stewardship programs, Diocesan Capital Campaign, and the Catholic Foundation of South Georgia.
