Director of Evangelization and Catechesis


St. Joseph Catholic Church, Macon, Georgia has an opening for a full-time Director of Evangelization and Catechesis reporting to the Pastor. This person is responsible for developing and implementing programs designed to provide Spiritual and catechetical formation of children, youth and adults.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, train and facilitate catechists who are responsible for the ministry and formation of children and youth in grades Pre-K through 12th.
  • Provide on-going catechist training using Diocesan curriculum guidelines for grade levels.
  • Insure all Catechists meet Diocesan certification standards.
  • Provide resources for effective programming.
  • Coordinate First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation programs including retreats and family events.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of Vacation Bible School.
  • Coordinate the outreach to and evangelization of all young people in the parish.
  • Work with parish leadership to develop a vision of Evangelization for the parish that includes RCIA, Dinner and Doctrine, Baptism Preparation and Adult Catechetical programs.
  • Advocate for a comprehensive vision of Youth Ministry, based on the 1997 USCCB guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with Catholic parish school and local Catholic high school leadership on shared programming.

Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and planning skills, have demonstrated leadership in a work environment that included budgeting, needs assessment, program design/implementation, and successful program execution. Experience working with online communication platforms and website design are preferred.

This position requires a person be a Catholic, in full communion with the Church. Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Catechesis, Theology or Pastoral Ministry or a related field ideally from an accredited Catholic college or university and have a minimum of two years’ experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
