Director of Curriculum and Instruction


  • Purpose

    The Director of Curriculum and Instruction assists the Superintendent in developing, coordinating and supervising the effective development, implementation, and ongoing revision of the Diocese of Savannah district-wide curriculum, instruction and professional learning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university
  • Current Georgia State teaching and/or leadership license
  • Three-to-five years teaching experience (preferably in Catholic Schools)
  • Hold a valid driver’s license, be able to drive and qualify under the diocesan insurance carrier when operating a district vehicle
  • Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church
  • Desire to continue professional growth

Essential Functions

  • Support the mission of Catholic education.
  • Understand Catholic Theology and Beliefs of the Catholic Church.
  • Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising and evaluating the effective programming of the district-wide curriculum, instruction and professional learning.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the Diocese of Savannah Catholic Schools district and community.


Designs (and/or modifies) and directs an operational framework for curriculum revision and instructional improvement.
  • Designs a structure for curriculum revision and instructional improvement.
    Develops and monitors the framework for curriculum mapping and implementation for all faculty/staff within the diocese.
  • Reviews the latest research, trends, and developments in all areas of curriculum, assessment and professional learning.

    Attends workshops, seeks webinars and relevant resources for developing curriculum, instructional practices and assessment, specifically the NWEA MAP.

    Seeks experts (through professional organizations, such as NCEA, ASCD, University of Dayton, University of Notre Dame, etc.) to assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of student learning.

  • Determines, recommends and coordinates needed services and action steps.

    Organizes the annual professional development conference for the all faculty and staff of the Diocese of Savannah – DEI (Diocesan Education Institute) and DCI (Diocesan Catechetical Institute).

    Creates and presents deanery workshops on best practices and assessment within each deanery annually.

    Serves as consultant to each school in developing teacher professional evaluations – observations, action plans, and professional learning.

Plans, organizes, directs and implements specific activities related to curriculum revision, assessment and instructional improvement.
  • Appoints and/or provides for the selection of committees to assist in the review and development of curriculum, assessment and instruction.
  • Supervises the development of curriculum at the local level Preschool – 12th grades.

    Serves as liaison for schools in creating Early Learning programs.

    Develops curriculum and reporting strategy for preschool programs throughout diocese.

    Ensures that all curriculum is infused with Catholic teachings and traditions.

  • Establishes procedures for regularly evaluating existing programs and practices.
  • Coordinates the testing program(s) for all schools.

    Coordinates the utilization of the diocesan assessments – NCEA IFG: ACRE and NWEA MAP.

    Serves as liaison for schools in utilizing testing data to improve student achievement.

  • Monitors textbook and supplementary materials selection used in educational programs in the district.
  • Coordinates and monitors staff development and inservice activities for the Diocese of Savannah Catholic Schools.
