Direct Services Manager | Family Advancement Ministries


Family Advancement Ministries (FAM) is a Catholic, diocesan, social service organization that, in partnership with the community at-large, nurtures a reverence for life by responding to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of families with the goals of moving families toward independence and self-sufficiency has an opening for a Direct Services Manager. This position reports to the Executive Director.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Direct Services Manager is responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive array of services and programs at FAM. The Direct Services Manager will lead staff and volunteers in our outreach, support and volunteer services. She/he will review, on an ongoing basis, services being offered and in conjunction with other FAM staff develop new programs as needs emerge. She/he will be responsible for all activities pertaining to financial support and crisis management for FAM clients, volunteer activities, and certain contracts. The Direct Services Manager will inform the executive director, and ultimately the board of directors, of all direct services program issues and accomplishments.

The Direct Services Manager will collaborate with FAM staff on information technology, quality improvement, and FAM communications—while also being responsible for all Direct Services program planning, organizing, operating, and staffing. She is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the Direct Services program aspects of the annual budget in conjunction with the Executive Director. She is responsible for ensuring that FAM’s Direct Services comply with all federal, state, funding, and city regulations, certifications, and licensing requirements. Finally, the Direct Services manager will assist the Executive Director in planning, organizing, and implementing public and private fund-raising initiatives and large-scale events.

Strategy, Vision and Leadership

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership, as well as stewardship, within FAM by being actively involved in all Direct Services programs and services. Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program and service areas, focusing on systems/process improvement. Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff and clients to give feedback on program operations.
  • Partner with the Executive Director to represent FAM with external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations.
  • Ensure that all Direct Services program activities operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of FAM and the Diocese of Savannah.

Team Development

  • Organize and plan the volunteer program/service including goals and objectives for the program as it reflects on the mission of the ministry.
  • Promote the volunteer program to gain community support of the volunteer program and the ministry.
  • Develop and implement an intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualification, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the ministry and the Diocese of Savannah. This will include the implementation of a screening process for potential volunteers in accordance with the Diocese of Savannah.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements and an assessment of the need for volunteers.
  • Evaluate the risks associated with each volunteer position and take appropriate action to control the risks associated with the program or service.


  • Prepare and submit an annual program operational budget to the Executive Director for review and approval, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
  • Ensure the continued financial viability of FAM’s program/service units through sound fiscal and program management. Provide programmatic leadership and input for all strategic planning processes with the Executive Director and staff.
  • Insures the confidentiality of all client files in accordance with FAM’s and the Diocese of Savannah’s policies.
  • Manages the inventory and purchases of items related to the programs activities.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit the right volunteers with the right skills.
