Bookkeeper, St Matthew Catholic Church

    Count Team and Parishsoft record keeper volunteers
  • Compensation

    Hourly Pay: $20 per hour, 12-15 hours per week
  • Summary

    A part-time accounting professional who reports to the Pastor and works in conjunction with the Parish Administrator and Parish Finance Council.
  • Responsibilities

    Implement and administer financial and HR practices consistent with diocesan financial policies and procedures
  • Responsible for bank relations including management of accounts.
  • Prepares checks for Pastor’s Signature.
  • Manages bookkeeping functions, including but not limited to, payables, receivables, and other revenue and expenses related to the parish.
  • Responsible for the administration of offertory enhancement programs, electronic giving, fundraising, Planned Giving and Annual Catholic Appeal
  • Responsible for payroll processing as well as benefit administration. Must become familiar with diocesan benefit programs.
  • Ensures that all federal, state, and local taxes are paid in accordance with regulations.
  • Coordinates the counting procedures and monitors that all internal controls are followed for safeguarding of the collections.
  • Supervises Parishsoft offertory and record keeper.
  • Coordinates with Parishsoft record keeper to reconcile Quickbooks and Parishsoft subledger weekly, monthly and annually.
  • Prepares and mails contribution statements.
  • Ensures that an adequate and proper Internal Control environment exists and continues work to assure its effectiveness.
  • Coordinates with Parish Office Administrator to provide data to assist Pastor and Finance Council in the development of annual budgets, five-year and long range financial planning.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting required with at least 5+ years demonstrated related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in appropriate computer technology.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience handling confidential, sensitive matters.
