Director of Parish Advancement | St. James Catholic School

The Director of Parish Advancement oversees all advancement activities directed towards parishioners, as well SJCS alumni, current parents, parents of alumni, grandparents, foundations, and friends of the parish and school. The Director of Parish Advancement oversees all parish increased offertory program, any capital campaign related activities, will manage, nurture, and enhance relationships to improve probability of continued and increased support of St. James Catholic Church and School.

The Director of Parish Advancement’s duties shall include, but not limited to:

Governance

  • Attend the Parish Pastoral Council, Parish Finance Council, and School Advisory Board meetings as needed and follow up on action items.
  • Support the Church and School’s mission statements and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and track annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, and additional fundraisers
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate a Planned Giving Program (Legacy Society) for the Church and the School
  • Serve as the primary research officer for the capital campaign, preparing profiles of donors and prospects and identifying future prospects to contribute to the capital campaign using various research tools (including, but not limited to, DonorSearch, internet research databases and print publications)
  • Provide donor stewardship by tracking, acknowledging, and publicizing donations (e.g. annual report)
  • Market the GRACE Scholarship to local businesses, vendors, parishioners, parents, and other potential donors
  • Assists Campaign Committee, Church Pastor, and School Principal by scheduling appointments and arranging travel to meet with campaign prospects
  • Coordinates and manages all details for special events related to the campaign
  • Prepares and provides mailing lists, campaign reports, statistical analyses and other material as needed
  • Work closely with other school fundraising groups (e.g. Home and School Association, Athletic Association) to coordinate fundraising efforts, dates, and donors
  • Maintain parish and school databases for donors (individual, businesses, foundations)
  • Carefully plan and maintain budget for advancement operations
  • Work collaboratively with the School Advisory Board to develop short and long-term strategic planning
  • Attend key St. James Catholic Church and School events to interact with donors and prospects as well as keep apprised of timely and relevant information in order to create solicitation proposals

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Prefer four or more years of proven major gifts fundraising and/or sales experience preferably during a campaign
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Understanding of major gift fundraising techniques including cultivation and stewardship techniques
  • Proficiency with computers especially Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint)
  • Working knowledge of a donor database (CRM software) like Little Green Light is highly preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, managing multiple projects and work assignments
  • Creative, self-motivated, innovative thinker with ability to develop and incorporate new ideas
  • Ability to set goals and achieve success in a disciplined, time-sensitive way
  • Demonstrates ability to apply sound judgment in all situations
  • High-level, infectious enthusiasm to communicate the mission and philanthropic needs of St. James Catholic Church and School and to inspire giving across all constituencies
  • Proven experience working with and managing volunteers
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as warranted by meetings and events
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion
  • Have a knowledge of and respect for the Catholic faith
  • Ability to travel locally is required
  • Successful completion of Diocesan Safe Environment Class
  • Completion of current required background checks including fingerprints
